Handcrafted by jewelry artist Trecy Bleich, this bangle bracelet is part of her Rice collection, created to draw attention to a time in our history when women from West Africa were brought by involuntary migration to the developing United States specifically for their skill in rice cultivation.
Handcrafted by jewelry artist Trecy Bleich, this bangle bracelet is part of her Rice collection, created to draw attention to a time in our history when women from West Africa were brought by involuntary migration to the developing United States specifically for their skill in rice cultivation.

These enslavers worked endlessly, by hand, the entire process of rice production in the Atlantic basin of Georgia and South Carolina. America benefited from their skills because the profits of rice brought great economic wealth during this time.

Shades of green, blue and black guide this collection as the colors are hand woven to represent the color of the rice plant, the water in which the plant is grown and the people who worked the crops.

The shape of the glass beads adds
an abstract image of rice as it is designed with embroidery and brass.

The Rice collection is made to honor, elevate and beautify the souls of these enslaved women as they were, during this time, only considered three fifths of a person by the 1787 U.S. Constitution.

Trecy Bleich jewelry is a designer of handcrafted jewelry based in Atlanta Georgia. All pieces are designed and handcrafted using metalsmith and bead weaving techniques.

Materials: Glass, 14K gold filled beads and ear wire.
Measures: 2 1/4" l.
Care: Hand beading - Keep hand beaded portion of design away from water because it may loosen. Keep jewelry in protective bag when not in use. Metals - You may wipe brass with soft cloth for cleaning. 14K gold filled metals can be polished with gold cleaner. Please keep in plastic bag or other container. This will prolong shine and keep from tarnishing.
