Zarina, who was born in India in 1937, moved to New York in the mid 1970s and quickly became engaged in Minimalist and feminist art movements. Her “pin drawings” (1977-9) rely on a grid and use differing frequency and intensity of marks to create surfaces that range from the rhythmically mathematical to the visceral and feminine.
