 | Lizzi Bougatsos, JESUS IN MY LEG!, 2010 00434$800.00 $800.00 Members Pay: $725.00 Adding To Cart... Item Added to CartThis photograph features a leg covered in a bruise that is reminiscent of an iconic image of Jesus Christ. Taken by Bougatsos on her Blackberry, the image is playfully sacrilegious and flippant, while at the same time loaded with heavy symbolism. In some cultures, such a bizarre occurrence would be considered a miracle, attracting pilgrims and alms. Although Bougatsos doesn’t seem to interpret the appearance of Jesus on her own leg as a gift from God, she does take care to document its occurrence, thereby pointing out that as much as we think we’re immune to superstition, religious iconography continues to command notice, even in the form of kitsch. The sale of this work will benefit the Young Collectors Council. Over the past ten years the Young Collectors Council has raised funds to purchase more than 120 works of art for the Guggenheim’s permanent collection.
